Family Member Story Telling
Sharing
Experiences...Strengthening Recovery
Story telling has become an increasingly important tool to foster recovery.
Sharing one's personal experience
not only can inspire others, it also strengthens individual long-term recovery.
In an effort to expand the positive
effect of story telling in recovery, DBH/MRS has begun to incorporate family
members into this process.
Family
Member Story Telling training is a free program offered by DBH/MRS and the
Philadelphia Compact to
help families become active and effective catalysts in the recovery process. The
training is available for family
members of children and/or adults who have received mental health (MH) and/or
substance abuse (D&A)
services in the city of Philadelphia. All
who support people in recovery are welcome: Sponsors, Leaders in
Recovery, Neighbors, Direct Staff, Community Leaders, Faith-Based Community
(Pastors, Imams, Rabbis), etc.
Some of
the program highlights include:
-
An
overview of the critical elements of recovery-oriented care
-
How to
become more comfortable and confident in sharing the family's perspective of
recovery
-
How to
use their own story to educate and inspire others
-
Using
story telling to become ambassadors and advocates in the recovery community
Story Telling Provides:
-
Comfort
-
Mutual
Support
-
Hope
-
Inspiration
