On Saturday, April 17, 2010 the Family Resource Network held its first annual
Family Recognition Celebration. The event facility was generously provided by the
Belmont Center for Comprehensive Treatment.

The celebration served several purposes :
• to bring together all the family members who participate with one of the various
FRN member organizations
• to honor these families, and the leadership of their support groups
• to provide current behavioral health information and resources
• to meet other families and advocates
• learn about “family inclusive” efforts

Featured speakers were Dr. Arthur Evans, Director of Philadelphia’s Department
of Behavioral Health & Mental Retardation Services and Michele Dowell, Coordinator
for the Philadelphia Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team.
Dr. Evans spoke about the department’s commitment to Recovery Transformation
and the importance of families being involved at all levels in the behavioral health system.
Michele Dowell informed the audience as to the collaborative efforts of the Department of
Behavioral Health and the Philadelphia Police Department to train police officers about
behavioral health issues and the positive impact it is having for officers, individuals in
need of behavioral health assistance, and their families.

One family member from each support group was honored with a certificate for their
enduring efforts to support their loved one.

Families found the event to be positive and beneficial, and are looking forward to next
year’s celebration.
